Wijziging les van woensdag 19 okt in cocteau !!

Beste,

door omstandigheden dient de les voor de beginners een half uur vroeger te beginnen, dus om 18 u i p v 18u30.

De les voor niv 1 om 19u30 kan helaas niet doorgaan en zal op een andere dag gegeven worden (af te spreken)

mijn verontschuldigingen voor deze onverwachte wijziging.

President Obama on a monday afternoon

Today we started the day to split up. Saarke went to meet and lunch with collegues she knows from her job and i made a 3 hours walk through Prospect Gardens in Brooklynn. I wanted to wisit the lake in a peddel boat (closed for reconstructions) Plan B was to visit the Botanique gardens (closed on mondays and they did a pesticide cure ). As i had no Plan C i just wondered around and enjoyed the fauna and flora of this nice park. The sqwerls (eekhoorntjes) are very cute . Less cute are the numerous people who leave litter in the park and create infinite hours of jobs for the pour workers who fill there days picking up al this garbage… The New Yorkers produce huge amounts of litter. No wonder if you see that in every shop they put 2 plastic bags inside each other before putting your food in it. And all fast food and drinks are being surved in non reusable recipients..
After preparing supper and having a nap, we reunited and whent to Manhattan for our appointment in Sofia’s restaurant with Elisabeth. The band playing there was the famous “Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks” who played in the series ” Bordwalk Empire” and in the movie “The Aviator ” . Great swing and raggtime music from the 20′s and 30′s . We had nice dancing and got a show with great guest singers and tapdance on top. At 23 hours the party was over and we went looking for a salsa bar, but ended up tired from walking around and not finding it, so headed back home.. It appeared that the traffic jam and the huge amount of NYPD police we met in central Manhattan were caused by two facts. One, the presence of Barak Obama (if i am not wrong he visited the UN meating) along with a protest demonstration against him and second a burst in the main water supply tube in uptown Manhattan, that flooded some subway lines.
New York, the city that never sleeps ! so true…. even after midnight the shops were open on Times Sqaire

adventures in New York City

We (Saarke and me) arrived with one hour delay at JFK airport and took a yellow cab to our host Mary, who lives in Brooklynn downtown New York. Great place to stay (and many thanks for your hospitality Mary ! ).
First things to optain was a metro-pass and explore the underground system…a ride to Manhattan and a short vieuw…too exhousted to do more than that. First impression, NYC is huge ! and with a lot of open spaces. When returning to Brooklynn we were like zombies and after our first fastfood meal, we fell asleep as if we took a handfull of temestas or something like that !
2d day sunday sept 18th:
We went to Harlem and took part of a gospel service at the FCBC (First Corynthian Baptised Church), with some NY couple we met on the street and who took us in so we did not have to wait in the tourists cue ! The singing (it was like a rock concert !) and the pastor’s preach was amazing ! goosebumps and breathtaking !After a service of 1 and a half hour we were Jesus filled apon saturation and left the church and came directly in the middle af a parade. Coincidently today is the annual celabration of the Afro-American Community of Halem. As a welcome to New York, this can count for double …

We decided not to watch the whole parade,wich was huge and still building and went to “dance Manhattan” on West 39 in 19th street and took 2 classes of Lindy hop dancing. One about macro an micro musicallity in dance and one on Dips and tricks. Bobby and Kate from Washington DC were our teachers.
There we met Elisabeth from North Carolina, with whom we will go out dancing monday night at Sophia’s restaurant with live band.
We ate tapas at the lounge nextdoor ( great food for a decent price ) and then went for an evening walk to Times Squaire . Too mutch to tell and unable to express in words. Marvellous but over the top ! Some guy asked his girslfriend to merry him in the middle of Time Squaire , another girl was doing a photoshoot on a traffic light etc… pictures soon to come

NYC made a friendly, breathtaking first impression and satisfied we fell asleep…so far so good !

Gratis Proefles Lindy Hop in de Scala in Beveren (bij Antwerpen)

Beste dansliefhebbers,

Maandag 12 september om 20 u Gratis initiatieles voor iedereen die eens wil proeven van Lindy Hop, de vrolijke vrije voorloper van de Rock’n Roll, de swingende jazzy koppeldans uit de jaren ’30 -’50 .

Hieronder nog eens het overzicht van de lessen op maandag. Voor de lessen Lindy Hop en Salsa (Cubaanse stijl) op andere dagen zie de inschrijvingspagina op mijn blog.
